DESIGN YOUR LIFE: A Designer’s Take on Manifesting

Begin with Essence

What if you design your life the way an artist approaches a canvas—or a designer creates a mood board?

Not with rigid specifics, but with essence.

We’re often taught that manifesting requires precision: clear outcomes, exact images, detailed plans. Vision boards fill with literal representations of what we think we want. Yet when we focus too narrowly on specifics, we can unknowingly limit what life is capable of delivering.

Life’s most beautiful designs are created on a canvas of infinite possibility.

Designers begin with mood boards to capture feeling rather than form—colors, textures, words, images that express a way of being. Mood boards don’t dictate the final result; they create an open field for inspiration to emerge. They invite discovery.

Once the essence is clear, the work begins. Research. Exploration. Craft. And almost always, what ultimately emerges is different—and more beautiful—than what was first imagined.

The same is true of our lives and of how we can design them.

Leave Room for Grace

When we tell the Universe exactly what we think we want, we may miss what wants us even more. Designing your life as a mood board—rather than a fixed plan—defines how you want to feel, live, love, and express yourself. It leaves room for grace.

I didn’t design my life by declaring specifics. I designed it by declaring essence.

From a young age, I knew I wanted a life shaped by creative expression, freedom, and beauty. I didn’t know what form that life would take, but I trusted the feeling. I followed the work before me, said yes when opportunities arose, and let the path unfold.

That approach led me into a creative career that carried me across cultures and continents—experiences I could never have planned in advance. Had I clung to specifics, I might have missed the very life that found me.

That’s the paradox of manifesting: clarity of essence paired with openness of outcome.

Work with What Is

My approach is simple. Define the mood. Name the values. Hold intentions lightly. Always leave room for something wiser than your own imagining by adding a quiet prayer, such as: This or something better, for the highest good of all.

Then engage fully. Put your hands to the work. Stay present. Trust what unfolds.

Manifesting isn’t about control. It’s about working with life as it moves.

Design Your Life: A New Season

At any age or stage, you can redesign the essence of your life. Designers create new mood boards each season—honoring continuity while inviting renewal. Our lives deserve the same thoughtful attention.

Today bridges yesterday and tomorrow.

In the art of living, the essence we choose defines the canvas of our experience. We can attempt to manage every detail—or we can allow ourselves to fly. When we release the need to control the form, life often carries us further than we ever could have planned.

P.S. If this speaks to you, try creating a mood board for your life—not of what you want to have, but of how you want to feel. When you design from essence, life often answers with more beauty than you imagined.
